Who We Are...
Grapes is Hilo's first and only dedicated wine store. We don't sell beer, hard liquor, cigarettes, beef-jerky, wine gizmos…you get the idea. The store is cozy (200 sq feet!) and specializes in wines not commonly found in super markets. Grapes offers you a selection of over 100 different wines from around the world, with most wines priced between $10-$13 per bottle (of course this doesn't stop us from buying Brunello's either).
The proprietor of Grapes is Randy Nunokawa. Randy is committed to finding you the best wines for the best value. He tastes all wines prior to sale to assure you of quality and to help you with wine and food pairings, (Hey, it's a hard job, but somebody has to do it!).
Some of our first time customers have a hard time finding Grapes. We're located in the town of Hilo on the east side of Hawai'i Island, on Kilauea Avenue between Ponahawai and Mamo Streets; across the street is Subway and Lucy's Taqueria. Yep, this is a small town where most directions are given based on landmarks. Street parking is available as well as the gravel parking lot on the corner of Mamo Street that fronts the downtown KTA Super Store.

Grapes is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m. We are closed on Sundays because that's when Randy plays golf and on Mondays because that's when he recovers from playing golf.
If you're looking for a specific bottle of wine or have a question about pairing wine with a special meal, please contact us. We'd love to help.

Our Grapesvine newsletters inform you of upcoming wine tastings, as well as special events. They give you a description and price of each wine being offered. We offer gift certificates so come in and buy.

Announcements & Events...
Thursday, October 23, 2014
Holy cow that was some rain we had on Saturday night! Hopefully, all of you were safe and dry. What was hilarious was seeing some of you at the Hilo Bay Café bar on Friday evening. Nothing like liquid courage to face the gathering storm!
For this week’s wine tasting, we have a French Chardonnay that’s mature and sophisticated, plus an agreeable Cotes-du-Rhone, a friendly Nero D’avola from Sicily, and a serious Monastrell from Spain.
Looking forward to seeing you and your friends this Thursday – Randy

Kapcsandy Estate Wines
"...nothing short of remarkable..."
Aloha Grapes Gang -
It's not often that I get a chance to promote highly sought after wines (with equally high prices), but Grapes is entering a new phase, one which offers customers an expanded range of wines suited to all budgets. Throughout the year, you will be receiving Grapes Alerts that will notify you of wines sought after by wine lovers for their exceptional taste and aging potential. Naturally, Grapes will always offer you affordable wines.
To begin this new venture, Grapes introduces you to Kapcsandy Estate Wines. I've copied and pasted what the experts have written for your reading enjoyment. Prices are for single bottles, and will be flown in by FedEx, 2-day delivery; all wines are subject to availability.
If any of you are interested, please call me at 808.933-1471 or leave me an email - Randy
Grapes will be carding all buyers starting from August 1, 2013.
This policy will apply to anyone without grey hair. Love you, too!
Grapes New Location
Grapes new address is 207 Kilauea Avenue. We are located near Puff City where Kilauea Avenue becomes one-way after Ponahawai Street if you're traveling in the Hamakua direction; across the street is Subway and Lucy's Taqueria. Our business hours will remain the same – Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 noon to 6:00p. Our new location has a lot more street parking, as well as the gravel parking lot to the corner of Mamo Street that fronts the downtown KTA Super Store. And, although we'll be twice the size, our mission remains the same – that of helping to educate you, offering you fair and competitive wine prices and giving you the best service possible.
