Thursday Wine Tasting!

  • Grapes: A Wine Shop 207 Kilauea Avenue Hilo, HI, 96720 United States (map)

For this Thursday’s tasting, we showcase a variety of wines – from Argentina we showcase New Age white which we’ll serve with lime; from east Washington, we’ll taste Charles Smith’s Boom Boom Syrah and Block Nine’s Pinot Noir from California and a new Cabernet from Columbia Valley called Merf, plus an exciting new Bordeaux from Chateau “B” de Loudenne.

It’s going to be a great tasting!

Looking forward to seeing you and your friends -- Randy

Wine Tasting White:

New Age White, Mendoza Valley, Argentina ($12 per bottle) –
Yes, we’ve had this wine before, but this is the new vintage.  A blend of 90% Torrontes and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, the wine is extremely refreshing showing fresh cut citrus fruit, a little effervescent and a clean finish.  What so interesting about this wine is the need to add a bit of lime juice to kick it into gear!  A hit at any party.

Wine Tasting Reds:

Chateau “B” de Loudenne, Rouge, Medoc, France ($13 per bottle) –
A great wine.  From Chateau Loudenne, the “B” is for the vineyards at the bottom of the Chateau.  Close to Medoc, the wine is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.  It has good depth and balance with enough acidity to make it a terrific food pairing wine.  Ideal when served with soft milk based cheeses.

Block Nine, Pinot Noir, California ($14.00 per bottle) –
Another great example of producing a drinkable and affordable Pinot Noir from Block Nine.  The wine shows good red and Bing cherry fruit with enough weight without being clumsy.  Try pairing this with sautéed duck breast.
Merf Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, WA ($13 per bottle) –
Named after winemaker David “Merf” Merfeld, Merf is very approachable, showing Cab structure, soft tannins and spice.  A hint of cocoa and mint on the finish makes this a no brainer to buy and enjoy.  Merf can be drunk with just about anything.

Charles Smith, Boom Boom Syrah, Columbia Valley, WA ($17 per bottle) –
Charles Smith’s Boom Boom Syrah has been around since 2007 and continues to show us an excellent value driving Syrah.  It shows nice Blackberry, boysenberry and black tea flavor with garden herbs on the finish.  Perfect for an afternoon BBQ.
