Wine Tasting!

Aloha Grapes Gang –

Yes, be prepared for a great tasting!  I’ve just gotten through sampling the wines given below and they are absolutely delicious.  From Elena Walch, we’ll be tasting a grape varietal native to her home in the Italian alps called Schiava.  From Col Del Mondo a wonderful wine that can grace any table.  And Bodegas Nekeas’s El Chaparral de Vega Sindoa and Chateau Briot’s rouge that will make you beg for another taste.  Yummy is the word!

Looking forward to seeing you and your friends this Thursday -- Randy

Wine Tasting Reds:

Col del Mondo 2017 Sunnae Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Italy ($13 per bottle) –

Ooh, Col del Mondo’s 2017 Sunnae is a winner!  Wonderful flavors of ripe black fruits with great balance that lingers all the way through the finish.  Made from the Montepulciano grape varietal; it grows throughout mid and southern Italy.  Perfect with pasta with a red sauce.

Chateau Briot, Rouge, Bordeaux France ($13 per bottle) –

Wonderful example of an affordable Bordeaux wine that shows balanced acidity and black fruit.  Extremely easy to drink.  I would pair this gem with braised short ribs and mushrooms.  Simply delicious!

Bodegas Sindoa, El Chaparral de Vega Sindoa Old Vine Garnacha, Navarra, Spain ($17 per bottle) –

Concha Vecino is the winemaker of Bodegas Sindoa where she makes delicious wines in the Navarra district of Spain.  The vineyards sit in Vega Sindoa (green valley) and produce wines that are subject to the cold winds of the Atlantic Ocean.  The wine shows marvelous flavors of Blackberries, black cherries with anise and spice on a balanced finish.  Most onolicious when paired with roasted pork.

Elena Walch, 2017 Schiava, Alto-Adige, Italy ($18 per bottle) –

Alto-Adige’s Wonder Woman, Elena Walch, continues to grow and promote the grape varietal Schiava (pronounced skee-ah-va), which is native to the area.  One of the few red grapes left in the region, the wine teases you with flavors of soft cherries and Cinnamon spice.  Very low in acidity, it will make any afternoon pleasurable.  It will be hit when served with German Chocolate cake.
